Eric Blackshear the 3/5ths clause of the constitution was written in as a concession for the southern states, the slaveholders so that they could be part of the union. it would not have worked without ALL 13 colonies... and the debate was over the south wanting to include their "property" in the representatives' count set up for the Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James Champion shirt, electoral, and taxation purposes. it was a blatant contrast to the declaration of independence which stated all men created equal. thank God for the amendment processes which ultimately allowed all citizens to be accounted for in our Republic.
